I’ve sifted through hundreds, if not thousands, of First World War studio portraits but these are unusual in that they measure a mere 1 3/4″ x 3 3/8″. They are printed on postcard stock and are of excellent quality. The photographer was Malcolm Macalpine whose black & white studio was located at 26 Greenside Place in Edinburgh however the backs are stamped indicating they were snapped at their studio in Waverley Market, located next to the train station, and all between August and October 1917. Unfortunately I have no information on the four convalescing soldiers.
