“Victoria, Mobilize!: A City Goes to War” Aug. 9 & 10th, 2014

An Edwardian Picnic

VEMRA presents “Victoria, Mobilize!”, a “Downton Abbey”-style Edwardian picnic and Mobilization event

VEMRA (Victoria-Esquimalt Military Reenactors Association) is hosting a 2-day Living History event in partnership with Parks Canada at Fort Rodd Hill on August 9 & 10, 2014. Described as a “Downton Abbey”-style Edwardian picnic and Mobilization event it will feature open-air lectures, weapons demonstrations, music by the Regimental bands of the 5th Garrison Artillery and the 50th Gordons as well as the chance to enlist and learn 1914 Foot and Arms Drill. Sample some bully beef and hardtack, join in on a tug of war or take in some local cricket (Metchosin Cricket Club). It should be a wonderful event and I’m very much looking forward to it. Detailed information on the event is available on the VEMRA website. An interview with Simon Sobolewski on CBC Victoria provides some great background on the event.
