On Sunday April 9th I and 30 other community groups will be on hand at the Bay Street Armoury in Victoria to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge. My table will be located next to the Victoria Genealogical Society so please drop by and say hello.
From 10am to 4pm I will help Victorians discover more about their First World War ancestors. On display at my table will be the 7th Brigade Vimy Trench map carried into battle a century ago. I will also be remembering two soldiers that day, my first cousin twice removed, Lt. George Geoffrey May who died on April 9, 1917 and Private Thomas Shearman who was wounded in the attack on The Pimple on April 12, 1917 and died on April 27th at the Huddersfield War Hospital.
