This clipping from a British newspaper in 1917 contains the final words of a son to his mother and father. Lieutenant Herbert Frederick Bolton of the 103rd Machine Gun Corps died on May 3rd from wounds sustained during the Battle of Arras.
Herbert Frederick Bolton was born on 17 Dec 1894 in Darwen, Lancashire to Rev. Fred Bolton and Jane Bolton (nee Weeks). The Oxford educated Theology student received his commission in July 1915 and joined the BEF in France and Flanders in June 1916. He died at the No. 42 Casualty Clearing Station and is buried in the Aubigny Cemetery in France.
