John AMBROSE

Private John Ambrose (Regimental No. 931688) was born in CroomIreland on August 28, 1882. He emigrated to Canada in 1911 and worked in the former coal-mining community of Natal, British Columbia as a groom. In July 1916 he enlisted with the 225th (Kootenay) Battalion in nearby Fernie and listed his occupation as clerk. His battalion arrived in England in early 1917 and was immediately absorbed into the 16th Reserve Battalion. In October 1917 Private Ambrose returned to Canada suffering from an enlarged thyroid gland. He underwent an operation in Victoria but sadly died shortly thereafter, aged 35 years.

He is buried in Ross Bay Cemetery (Victoria, BC) in:
